Emma Stone Just Wore the Amazon Coat and Upper East Side Moms Are Shaking

PHOTO: BACKGRID

A headline from yesterday read: “Emma Stone Shows Off Engagement Ring During Trip to Athens.” All due respect to Emma Stone, the beautiful country of Greece, her stunning pearl engagement ring, and her future husband, who I’m sure is great—but none of those things really matter. Like, at all. The only thing that truly matters about these photos of Emma Stone allegedly “showing off” her engagement ring is the fact that she is doing so while wearing the iconic Orolay Coat. Upper East Side moms are shaking.
The Orolay Coat is, I believe, the only winter jacket to have its own feature in The New York Times, complete with an original illustration. It’s more of a household name than most famous New Yorkers. It has also been featured in New York Magazine and practically every online publication imaginable. The oversized, olive-green coat is so beloved that every mom in Brooklyn can be spotted in it the moment the temperature drops below 50 degrees. Chances are, while you’re thinking about The Coat, you’ll pass at least three people wearing it. That’s not magic—that’s math.
This $140 bestseller has become a cultural phenomenon. It’s like that indie darling of a celebrity who suddenly skyrockets to A-list status, appearing on every billboard, commercial, and blockbuster movie. Which is exactly why this Emma Stone sighting is so exciting. At the peak of the Orolay Coat’s popularity, it’s wild to think that an Oscar-winning actress would be photographed wearing it. It almost doesn’t make sense, but it was bound to happen eventually. You can only resist one of Oprah’s favorite things for so long before realizing it might just be one of yours, too.
And just like that, I now have a lot of questions for Emma Stone, whom I will probably never meet. Who inspired her to wear the Orolay Coat? Was she trying to blend in at the Athens airport, where no one probably owns The Coat? Will the people of Greece finally catch on to its virality? Does she take comfort in knowing that she is now officially just like us? Or is she secretly embarrassed to have joined the most popular winter-coat phenomenon a few years late?
Truth be told, Emma Stone probably doesn’t care about any of these things. But I’m sure the Orolay Coat is flattered by her approval and its never-ending fifteen minutes of fame.
If you want to experience the hype for yourself, Orolay offers this must-have coat here: Women's Thickened Down Jacket.
